Why: The “LRA” began as an evolution of the ‘Holy Spirit Movement’ led by Alice Lakwena. When Alice died in 2007, Joseph Kony took over her spot (Joseph Kony is said to be a ‘good Christian man’ and is native to the country of Uganda) then changing the name to the Lord Resistance Army or “LRA”. When the group lost support and followers, Kony made a quick decision to start a ‘rebel group’ of the LRA; stealing villages supplies and abducting over 300,000 children in the countries surrounding Uganda, (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Southern Sudan and North of most Uganda)..
Joseph Kony would abduct boy children for use of child soldiers and female children as either sex slaves amongst all or to be turned into multiple wives of these men. The strategy he used to have the children on their side was to command them to witness perpetrator terrible acts, such as others killing their family or for them to kill their family themselves to show that they have nothing to come home to.
Trauma and scars:
Thousands of children and what is left of their family across the countries have struggled through cycles of violence and economic poverty causing loads of trauma and fear for what almost seems like a short life time of theirs. Thankfully, deep in the villages of Africa, their is some hope; local visionaries who are helping their own communities address trauma, mediate conflict amongst all, and learn to heal & educate together. Bless fully, we are here to help!
