It’s that time again! Take a moment to read more….. lots of pictures!
Lira, Uganda 2020 and this time.. I’m making my sister come!
Yvonne (Vonnie) will be joining the New Beginnings Project by helping with dental hygiene and care. Some of these kids have never even seen a toothbrush let alone use one! Dental care is a MAJOR need there. Some of the dental issues and conditions that could lead to death seem like a far gone issue for us in modern days but for them is still a prominent issue!
I know, I know, we’re always asking you to help us help them. But, we wouldn’t be asking if it wasn’t ABSOLUTELY necessary!
Every year Jeff and I make a trip or two to Lira, Uganda where I have set up a small private non-profit organization, Loving Life Heals project New Beginnings with my partner, Emma.
Emma and I have set up a safe house group home for traumatized young women who have escaped sex slavery and some severe torture. We rehabilitate them and do our very best to teach them as much about living independently as we can. From there, we hope to help them find their ways back into the community as future leaders, healers, and helpers!
In addition to our safe house group home, we also have a district of villages for whom we have taken under our wing. We are doing our very best to help in so many ways.
Here are some of our current projects we are currently raising funds for:
– Safe House – Larger home and security – we need walls and a gate. Trauma makes it difficult for anyone to feel safe so they move around a lot. This causes our girls to come and go too often. If we can provide more security we suspect they will stay longer and complete the programs in half the time!
– Water! – This is the most important! Currently our villagers walk miles and miles (which is also really dangerous) to get water often times missing work or school just to get to a borehole and back. We would love to put a few boreholes closer to our villagers to provide them with a source of water!
– Building a small school building – right now they hold class under a tree, and although we value being in nature, the temperatures are not conducive for learning.
– Building a small medical clinic – right now our moms are giving birth in the dirt, there is absolutely not dental care, and medical is so bad that we have children living with broken limbs for months on end before even being able to see a physician.
– Building a community center – as as a result of the high rates of PTSD and trauma, unfortunately addiction and domestic violence is becoming a serious problem, it is our hope to create more of a supportive community environment in hopes to begin combating this issue. We also would like to hold night school and offer some skills courses for our young adults or adults.
-Transportation – Man do we need this! Our volunteers often visit our families and villagers to do home visits and help provide support in any way we can. We would like to help get people to medical appointments, kids to school, and families to water. This would be a game changer!
– Funding Medical Care – So many many many of our people there have medical conditions, ailments, problems, etc. that go completely untreated
– Farming – We have so many of our pregnant mothers farming miles of land with their bare hands, we would love to get them some farming tools!
– Making Beds – Yes…..you read that correctly. It’s too often that I encounter pregnant women, children, infants, toddlers, elderly, etc. sleeping on concrete.
